‘Zero Dark Thirty’ trailer offers great new footage

HOLLYWOOD: A second trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s hunt for bin Laden feature Zero Dark Thirty has arrived online, giving the first real glimpse at footage from the film.
Writer Mark Boal explained the rather strange title for the film, saying it refers to “[the] military term for 30 minutes after midnight [as well as] the darkness and secrecy that cloaked the entire decade-long mission.”
As the film gears up for what will likely be a serious Oscar push, Zero Dark Thirty has finally unveiled non-night vision footage, highlighting the film’s talented cast. Now that this footage is actually out, it will be interesting to see how general anticipation for this film changes. Of all potential Oscar-winners, this has previously been probably the only project where nothing was really known, other than the credentials of those involved and the timeliness of the material.
The film focuses on the black ops mission to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, which culminated in his death in May of 2011 in a compound in Pakistan. The Hurt Locker team of Kathyrn Bigelow and Mark Boal has been developing the project since as early as 2008.
Just today EW revealed that James Gandolfini is not only in the cast, but plays a “top secret,” important role within the CIA, Leon Panetta, current Secretary of Defense in the Obama administration.
The film, which stars a ton of big names including Jason Clarke (Public Enemies), Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation), Joel Edgerton (Warrior), James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes), Edgar Ramirez (Carlos), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), stuntman Nash Edgerton, Jennifer Ehle (Contagion), Harold Perrineau Jr. (Lost), Ricky Sekhon and Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed), is scheduled for a December 19, 2012 release.
