Karachi: 2 killed, 21 hurt in blast at Rangers Headquarters


KARACHI: A suicide attacker rammed his explosives-laden truck into gate no.3 of Sachal Rangers Headquarters located in North Nazimabad Block B area of the metropolis that killed two Rangers men and injured 21 others Thursday morning, sources told Geo News.
According to the injured Rangers personnel, the incident took place when an explosives-laden car hit the gate no. 3 of the Rangers Headquarters that killed two Rangers personnel and injured 21 others including nine Rangers men, one policeman and a civilian.
The explosion smashed the glasses of the headquarters into pieces while a fire also broke out in one part of the building. Various walls of the headquarters also collapsed.
Rescue teams and ambulances reached the site of the incident and kicked off relief activities. The injured people were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where three were said to be in critical condition.
The injured Rangers men include Tariq Mohammad, Farooq, Wazir, Adeel, Ghulam Mustafa, Qadir Khan, Mohammad Anwar while policemen Wajid Ali and a civilian named Wali Khan were also wounded.
IG Sindh Fayyaz Leghari told Geo News that the blast occurred when a suicide bomber hit the building with explosives laden Shehzore truck.
Initial investigation suggested that 150 kilograms of explosives were used in the blast, DIG West Javaid Odho told. It was also revealed that the registration and chassis numbers of the vehicles used in the blast were fake.
Fire brigades also arrived at the spot to extinguish the fire while bomb disposal squad was also called in.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and started investigation. Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested from the hospital who were engaged in making videos of the injured Rangers men, sources told.
