Public suffer as CNG stations avoid selling at loss

KARACHI: Even on Saturday after 48-hour shutdown of gas supply to CNG stations that ended on Friday morning, the CNG stations in the city witnessing long queues of vehicles for filling up their cylinders throughout the day, as the station owners avoided selling CNG for what they call at a huge loss on the pretext of low pressure of gas.
A good number of the fuel stations and CNG pumps in the city either did not resume the service of CNG filling altogether or operated only one or two pumps to keep waiting the vehicle owners for hours, despite the end of the two-day CNG shut down period.
With the unavailability of CNG in most parts of the city or being scarce at some places, public transport have gone thin on the roads causing immense inconvenience to the commuters that included office-goers, the school going children, college and university students, doctors and patients, daily wage earners and all sorts of people out for their routine chores.
The rickshaw and taxi owners taking advantage of the shortage of public transport have almost doubled the fares, while the public with no alternative available are forced to meet their whimsical demands.
